How I started my music career at 12 – AWOKO.

Following the success of her first album, Singer, Songwriter and Actress, Grace Komolafe, popularly called AWOKO, by her fans, has decided to make further moves in the Nigerian music industry.

Grace-Komolafe (AWOKO)Speaking to Vanguard, on how she started her music career, AWOKO, a native of Lampese in Akoko, Edo Local Government Area, Edo State, said her hopes and aspiration is to take over the world and become a great woman in her chosen profession with the desire to affect people’s life positively with her inspirational songs.


She said: “At the age of 12, I already discovered myself , I got motivated, which made me stick to what I know best. My parents saw it coming and gave me the total support and freedom.”

Speaking on her challenges, she revealed that despite all the rough and tough journey so far, she never gave up because of the passion she had for music.

“Although some people plotted distractions just to push me aside, but God remained faithful to me,” she said.

“Many people plotted distractions towards my musical career, but my God remain faithful to me; my zeal and passion for music kept me going.” She added.

Komolafe’s first album “Thank You” from Awoko Music International has seven tracks and was launched in June 2015 at the ALT Event Centre, Abule Egba in Lagos where influential personalities like the Lagos State Chairman, Association of Juju Musician of Nigeria {AJUMN} Ambassador Segun Nabi, National coordinator, Association of Juju Musician of Nigeria {AJUMN} Champion Kunle Opioand others, graced the memorable event.

She grew up in a Christian family, where she started her musical career at the age of 12 in the church choir ministry, but never knew it would be her major career in life.

Komolafe has performed at various events such as Special praise programmes, Open crusade, Musical concerts, Wedding ceremonies, House warming among others.

She infuses her dialect into her songs to embrace her culture, even as one of her tracks has also cut across two radio stations in Nigeria for of its deep content and messages.
