Buhari reluctantly approves N70m for Independence celebrations..

Story by Edward Jaleyemi ABUJA-APPARENTLY disturbed by the dwindling revenues of the country, President Muhammadu Buhari approved only N70million for this year’s Independence celebrations. Addressing journalists on Tuesday, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, OSGF made this revelation. According to the SGF, Buhari reluctantly approved the N70m after complaining that he would have preferred the money is diverted for the payment of workers salaries. He said the president had argued that the money was too much to be spent on frivolities such as celebrations when Nigerians are grappling to survive the present day economic stress . Johnson Olawumi, has disclosed that the scheme would no longer entertain request from people, seeking for concessional posting for their wards, relatives and friends for mobilisation during the NYSC mandatory one year national service. *NYSC members Olawumi, who was speaking during the opening ceremony of the training organised by the NYSC and the Housing Developers, Cooperative Society for Corps Members at the NYSC Orientation Camp Kubwa, Abuja stated that the scheme has introduced a self deployment mechanism to enable the prospective corps members choose a state, where they wished to serve. Gloom descends on N/Assembly over Saraki..

Story by Edward Jaleyemi An atmosphere of gloom descended on the National Assembly on Tuesday as the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, faced trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja. Activities at the National Assembly complex had been at low ebb since the trial saga commenced, with some workers wearing long faces. Although the workers declined to speak with newsmen on the development, some of them were seen discussing the matter in groups. No senator was seen at the premises while the car park was virtually empty. However, aides of the senators could be seen collecting rams on behalf of the lawmakers for the upcoming sallah celebrations.

Born on September 21 like Falae, a visibly agitated Fasehun, who turned Octogenarian yesterday, said in Lagos yesterday that he had ordered OPC operatives to immediately launch a manhunt, combing all nooks and crannies of Ondo State and beyond, for the kidnapped politician. Fasehun described the kidnap as an assault and insult on the Yoruba people, and challenged security operatives and agencies to produce Falae within 48 hours. Story by Edward Jaleyemi The Inspector -General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, has said that the removal of roadblocks from the nation’s highways and application of other administrative policies had reduced corruption in the Force. This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by the Force spokesperson, acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Olabisi Kolawole. The statement said Arase made the disclosure when the Presidential Advisory Committee on Corruption led by its chairman, Prof. Itsey Sagay, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja. It said that Arase further gave his total support for a warm relationship with the committee to succeed in its task. Story by Edward Jaleyemi Bayelsa government says it will not draw its share of the N222 billion approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for states to clear outstanding workers’ salaries. CBN has approved N12.85 billion for the state. Nineteen states have so far drawn from the funds that have a 20-year tenure. Dangote to bankroll 15 new professors for Kano University

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Shehu Musa told Reporters during an interactive session to mark its 15 years anniversary, explained that the philanthropic gesture was part of effort to boost manpower of the science based institution.
