Lagos News: Community Cautions On Dumping Refuse In Water-Ways

By Edward Jaleyemi

The people of Oke-Osun in Ikere Ekiti have been cautioned on indiscriminate dumping of refuse in water ways and building of structures on water side.
The deputy governor of Ekiti state, Dr. Kolapo Olusola, said this while visiting the areas ravaged by flooding. River Osun yesterday overflew it’s bank, thereby causing damages to properties.
Olusola, who was accompanied to the scene by the state commissioner for environment and the general manager, Ekiti State Environmental Agency, said the government under Governor Ayodele Fayose has done well on channelization of streams in Ado Ekiti, Ilawe and Otun Ekiti.
He expressed sympathy with the victims and assured them that government, as a matter of urgency, will take necessary steps to avert future occurrence of such.
While speaking with Naij.com, one of the victims called on both state and federal governments to come to their aid and assist in terms of emergency relief materials to salvage the situation.
