DOCTORS STRIKE: DELSUTH DOCTORS SUSPEND STRIKE

OGHARA – THE Association of Resident Doctors, ARD, at the Delta
State University Teaching Hospital, DELSUTH, Oghara in Ethiope West Local
Government Area of the state has suspended its 36days industrial action which
began on August 5.
The association in a statement by its president and secretary
general, Dr Okocha Innocent and Dr Agbele Omovigho respectively, explained that
the suspension of the strike became imperative following the intervention of
the state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and others.
The doctors stated that it has decided to suspend the strike so
as to give room for deliberations as well as implementation of outstanding
issues regarding the strike.
According to the resolutions of the association, “they expect
that the implementation of the corrected CONMESS for resident doctors and
payment of the arrears be completed before the end of November, 2015.
“That a written commitment and circularzation of skipping of
grade level for doctors be completed on or before end of November, 2015 with
the eventual aim of commencement of payment of skipping allowances in January,
2016.
“Failure of management/government to address all outstanding
issues will lead the association to two the inevitable line of recommencement
of the suspended strike action,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, a visit to the hospital on Thursday morning by
Vanguard reveals that medical activities are gradually gaining momentum
following the resumption of the doctors back to their duty posts.
